Spotsylvania Campaign
Click image for larger view From May 7 - 9, 2004, Spotsylvania County, Virginia commemorated the 140th anniversary of the Spotsylvania Campaign. Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania -- between May 7 and May 21, 1864, 85,000 men were wounded and 15,000 were killed. Farms large and small were ruined, and thousands of refugees were forced to the countryside. For three days, this turbulent period was brought vividly to life by re-enactors from around the nation. |
