From May 7 - 9, 2004, Spotsylvania County, Virginia commemorated the
140th anniversary of the Spotsylvania Campaign. Fredericksburg,
Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania -- between May 7 and May 21,
1864, 85,000 men were wounded and 15,000 were killed. Farms large
and small were ruined, and thousands of refugees were forced to the
countryside. For three days, this turbulent period was brought
vividly to life by re-enactors from around the nation.
