First conceived in 1923, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was dedicated in 1940 at Newfound Gap.  The Park straddles the borders of Tennessee and North Carolina and abuts the Reservation of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  Today Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited of all national parks.
