Along Virginia's James River

The James is the river where America began, the river on whose banks the first English settlement was founded, and the first  American river to be named (for King James I).  Beginning in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the juncture of the Jackson and Cowpasture Rivers, the James traverses 340 miles to Chesapeake Bay.   The James shaped the land through  which it cuts it path, and the lives of those living along its banks.  It has provided  water, food, energy,  transport and recreation from time immemorial, and continues to do so today.
