Boydton, Virginia

Boydton is a near neighbor to my home town of Chase City, and it is the county seat of Mecklenburg County.  Boydton was founded in 1812 by Alexander Boyd, who owned the property and designed the town.  Many of the historical buildings are still used today, including the courthouse, the Washington Tavern and the Boyd Tavern.

The annual fall festival -- Boydton Day --  is held on the last Saturday of October each year.  Boydton became natioanlly known in 1977 when U.S. News & World Report "discovered" it and called Boydton "The Little Town that Refused to Die".   A visit for Boydton Day makes it clear that Boydton knows how to live!
